| Job Description : Service Technician
Location: Select Sewing, Indianapolis, IN Schedule: Full-time or Part-time
About Us
At Select Sewing, we’ve been helping makers, quilters, and crafters bring their ideas to life since 1953. As an authorized dealer of Baby Lock, Pfaff, and Husqvarna Viking, we pride ourselves on bringing joy, creativity, and exceptional service to every customer who walks through our doors.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a meticulous, trustworthy Service Technician to keep our customers’ sewing and embroidery machines running beautifully. You’ll diagnose issues, perform repairs and preventive maintenance, and complete clean-and-tune services on Baby Lock, Pfaff, Husqvarna Viking, and other brands. This hands-on role blends technical problem-solving with friendly customer communication, explaining findings in plain language and setting clear expectations on timelines and costs. The position is hourly plus commission, with opportunities for growth into factory-certified levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage, diagnose, and repair sewing, serger, and embroidery machines (mechanical and computerized), including timing, tension, feed systems, motors, sensors, and electronics.
- Perform routine clean/oil/adjust (COA) services; run stitch/embroider test patterns and quality checks prior to return.
- Complete warranty and non-warranty work accurately, documenting notes, parts used, and labor in our system.
- Order and track parts; coordinate with vendors and support teams for escalations and service bulletins.
- Keep the service bench organized, maintain manufacturer-recommended practices, and uphold shop safety standards.
- Communicate clearly with customers about diagnostics, estimates, timelines, and care tips; provide simple usage or maintenance guidance when appropriate.
- Support basic in-store setups (firmware updates, calibration, accessory installs) and occasional event prep/equipment checks.
- Assist with intake and checkout processes, including creating tickets, labeling machines, and verifying accessories.
- Be available for some Saturday hours based on shop needs.
What We’re Looking For
- Technical aptitude with electromechanical repair (appliance, small engines, printers, musical gear, or similar). Sewing machine experience is a plus; we’ll train the right candidate.
- Detail-obsessed and organized—able to follow checklists, document work thoroughly, and manage multiple tickets.
- High integrity and customer focus—honest estimates, careful workmanship, and respectful communication.
- Hands-on problem solver who enjoys troubleshooting and learning new models, service bulletins, and firmware procedures.
- Comfortable using hand tools and meters; able to lift/move machines up to ~50 lbs and stand for bench work.
- Factory certifications (Baby Lock/Pfaff/Husqvarna Viking) or prior service-center experience are a bonus.
Compensation
- Base hourly rate plus commission.
