In this class, you’ll make a large, roomy tote that’s ideal for carrying groceries, sewing projects, gifts, or anything else you need to take along with you. We’ll walk through the project step-by-step, from preparing your fabric, sewing the bag together, and then adding webbing handles and a top hem accent.
Along the way, you’ll learn the basics of bag construction and techniques you can use for future projects. Whether you’re making one for yourself or creating a thoughtful handmade gift, this is a fun and practical project for building your sewing skills!

| Instructor Bio: | Carol has been sewing since she was seven years old, when she finally wore her mom down enough to be trusted with the “good” sewing machine and a pile of fabric scraps to make Cabbage Patch Kid clothes. She has been stitching ever since, steadily leveling up her skills and her love of all things thread and fabric. Sergers are permanent residents in her sewing room, and she especially enjoys working with knits to create comfortable, everyday clothes people actually want to wear. With a degree in Apparel Technology from Purdue University, she brings plenty of technical spark to match her creativity. She has been married to Ryan for over thirty years, and together they are raising nine amazing children, proving that “busy” is just another creative challenge. In August 2025, Ryan and Carol became the proud owners of Select Sewing, a beloved Indianapolis staple since 1953, and are excited to carry its legacy forward in the community. |
