By age 12, she was making all of her own clothes. She has sewn for her entire family all of her life. In 2000, she started working in sewing machine sales. Since she is an active member of Indy ASG, she has given many presentations and classes for members. Her special interest in sergers started in 1973. Betty now enjoys providing new owners lessons and sharing her knowledge with others.

Marge Kohnke

Sewing has always been a big part of Marge’s life. Her grandmother and mother were excellent seamstresses, and Marge has been striving to follow in their footsteps.

She began sewing even before she could use the machine by sewing doll dresses with a needle and thread. When she started on the machine, apparel clothing was what she wanted to do. Marge has sewn for her mom, children, friends and herself. She took every sewing class offered from the local technical school. Even though Marge had sewn for years, she started with the basic classes and continued on until tailoring and sewing for men.

Her husband's blazer took six months of classes to complete. She has also taken specialty classes, such as lingerie, home décor and quilting. When she moved to Indiana, she worked for five years at a local bridal store doing alterations as well as creating gowns.

Marge continues to learn at the ASG meetings and seminars, special programs around the country and even online. She feels you can always learn something new, and now enjoys not only sewing, but working with embroidery software.

Marge has taught at Select Sewing Service for about 12 years. She is PFAFF certified in both 4D, 5D & 6D software. She teaches new owners lessons, software lessons and specialty sewing classes. She loves to teach, and it is a great joy for her to share her knowledge and learn even more from all her students.
